Traditional partial dentures consist of replacement teeth that are embedded in a gum-colored base. The base is attached to a metal or gum-colored framework that has clasps that secure the device to your teeth. The main advantage of this type of appliance is that it can replace multiple teeth and is less expensive than a dental bridge. The disadvantages are that it’s not as stable as a bridge or implants and if the framework is metal, it won’t be completely concealed. While it can take a while to get accustomed to traditional partial dentures and they’re less comfortable than other types, we work with you to get the perfect fit.
A precision attachment partial denture differs from traditional partial dentures because the metal framework isn’t visible. The framework features extensions that interlock with a receiving area that has been specially made for it on crowns or bridgework. A precision attachment partial denture looks and feels better than a traditional one and the clasps are virtually invisible. However, it is slightly more expensive than its traditional counterpart and though durable, it’s less stable than dental implants or a dental bridge.
A dental flipper is the least expensive partial denture but it’s only meant to be a temporary tooth replacement. It breaks easily, needs to be taken out when you eat and it isn’t healthy for your gums if it’s worn for an extended period. However, for a quick fix, it’s a good option. To create a dental flipper, an impression of your mouth is taken to make a gum-colored acrylic plate. Then, an acrylic tooth that matches the color of your natural teeth is attached to it. We can also attach metal wires to it, so that it can be secured to your teeth.
